Your Choice of Materials and Trim Levels

Your Choice of Materials and Trim Levels

Whether you opt for the most basic Tennessee Traveler offering or a full-tilt customized model, expect your case to be thoughtfully- engineered and built only the way a craftsman can do it- by hand, using quality materials. Don't expect corner-cutting which affects durability, functionality, or attention to detail. You'll have your choice of exterior and interior treatments, both functional and aesthetic. Choose from different types of wood from domestic to exotic. Choose what to cover on the inside and outside using fabric, paint, applique/inlay, or nothing at all. It's all in what you want or need. You can even order a budget-friendly "sterile" model which comes completely assembled (ready to insert and carry your firearm) with all trim, interior bolsters and hardware in place, ready to paint, upholster, inlay or otherwise decorate yourself.

Tennessee Traveler currently offers two models which allow fitment of a wide range of long guns, with future models planned to accommodate even more.

Each model is available in a wide range of trim levels. The U at the beginning of the model number designates “universal”, while the numerical digits basically refer to the length and depth of the case.  (Ex: 4608= 46”x8”). The letter designation “c” refers to the slide retention system.  The original Travelers were designed with a spring bolster retention system and were never designated with “A”.  These were great cases but were not as universally accommodative as originally intended.  The “B” type retention system never got out of development.  Our latest cases use the highly adaptive “C” retention variant which employs a horizontally sliding bolster, capable of fitting the widest variety of rifles within a given length range.

U4608c: this is our most popular case for military surplus rifles, as a wide variety will fit inside it.  Most non-scoped rifles under 45” max length will fit in this case. It is originally designed around the Mauser K98k and 1903/1903a3, but was further refined to also fit the M1 Garand, Arisaka Type 99, Lee Enfield No.1 mkIII and No.4 mkI.  (The G98 Mauser, 1917 Enfield, and Mosin Nagant 1891 non-carbines are too long for this case but don’t fret- A 50” case is slated for development).

U4208c:  this is considered our “carbine” case.  It will accommodate a wide range of weapons with a maximum length of just under 42”.  It does NOT accommodate a rifle with a scope, although planned future designs exist for such a case.  Some popular weapons this case is designed for include lever action Winchesters  (such as model 94 & similar), Marlin 336 and similar, and various Henry lever actions.  Short shotguns such as the Winchester Model 12 “Riot” and rifle carbines under 41” will likely fit.  Please call if you’re not sure, as we will work with you to ascertain fitment.

About Tennessee Traveler image
The original Tennessee Traveler was created to fill the need for a period-appropriate, universally accommodative rifle case. These two primary goals were not easy to achieve, however, as we soon found out. Creating a beautiful case body was one thing. Creating a period look and feel was another. Creating a universal system to retain a wide variety of weapons without resorting to the ubiquitous foam inserts so commonly seen was quite another thing indeed. After all, there’s nothing wrong with a “foam sandwich” when it comes to modern day “black guns”. It was a different story when it came to 80-100 year old rifles with wooden furniture and earlier design elements. After months of development, the first Tennessee Traveler with a universal mechanical retention system was born. While that first case wasn’t quite as universal as we’d hoped, we were on the right path to creating an “every rifle” case to fit most military surplus rifles within a given range of length.
About Nomenclature image
As historians, we understand that many vintage weapons and artifacts, particularly those of Nazi Germany, feature nomenclature some, particularly those outside the militaria community, find offensive.  While we do not  encourage defacing historical artifacts, we feel it inappropriate to create new pieces bearing such symbols.  In the case of the Swastika, we will instead use alternate symbols such as the Iron Cross if the job calls for WW2 period German nomenclature.  That stated, we offer cases in “sterile” format, allowing customers to add whatever trims, fabrics, finishes and markings they deem acceptable.  If you happen to see a Tennessee Traveler case bearing profane/hateful/sexual or otherwise offensive wording or symbolism, we can assure you such was not added at our production facility and the content can be attributed solely to the owner.  We reserve the right to refuse customizations which in any manner we feel reflects poorly on our company.
